Fowler’s film mixes archive footage with newly shot material in an evocative video that reflects on the life and times of historian and political activist EP Thompson. It draws on his major work “The Making of the Working Class”. Thompson’s desire to deliver socially purposeful education for working class communities was opposed by an establishment desire for “an objective, calm and tolerant attitude”. The film centres on this argument.
The event included a presentation by oral historian Christine Gibbons on the Communiversity and the struggle of the people of Croxteth to save their community.
