Patricio Guzman, 2010
Our opening night’s screening for Nostalgia for the Light (2010), directed by Patricio Guzman addresses the lasting impacts of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship. Guzman looks at the similarities between astronomers researching humanity’s past, in an astronomical sense, and the struggle of many Chilean women who still search for the bodies of those murdered by the Pinochet regime. The screening was part of a larger event – The Day of the Dead of Night – ran by the Bluecoat that had a series of events running from 10am on Saturday 2nd November through to 3am on Sunday 3rd November. The event responded to the themes of 3am: wonder, paranoia and the restless night.
