Cry of jazz1Ed Blands, 1959

Hoping to be the first in an on going series of screenings that take moving image, Jazz and radical politics as starting points, we showed Ed Blands 1959 short film polemic ‘Cry of Jazz’ which uses staged scenes and archive footage (of musicians such as Sun Ra) to explore questions around race and cultural expression at the time of the civil rights and black power movement.
